Design Challenge and Design Ideas
2023 was a standout year for Design at Accenture The Dock. Our goal was to help clients solve complex challenges through design and conscientious innovation, cut through the Gen AI hype by showing how to create real value, and make Accenture The Dock a global destination by offering unique, tailored client experiences. Our work has deepened client relationships, tackled wicked societal challenges, and received global recognition. We partner with a hugely diverse range of clients to shape purpose driven outcomes, including:
• AIM – AIM proactive safety solution, created by our design, analytics and engineering teams, provides transport planners with the insights needed to achieve a safety strategy supporting the design of sustainable, resilient cities.
• Barnahus – Combining design research, facilitation, social research and systems analysis, we helped Irish state agencies adopt a new multi-agency service for child victims of sexual abuse, and create a unified National Vision for the first time.
• Canopy – Bringing together satellite, eDNA and bioacoustics data, we co-created a
bespoke solution to help mining industry organisations accurately track and report their impact on communities, biodiversity, forests and water, helping to monitor current operations and plan for future scenarios.
• Barclays – We worked with Barclays and the Unreasonable Group to create a public research report and thought leadership series on building better collaborations for achieving social value.
• Riyadh Air – As design partners to Riyadh Air, we’ve played a key role in shaping their digital-first approach to both guest and employee experiences, enabling Riyadh Air’s mission to be the future of flight.
How the brief was fulfilled
The pace of global economic, societal and environmental change make this a uniquely challenging time for designers. It is a time where the humanity of experimentation is vital to our way of thinking, working, collaborating and driving decisions. It’s a time where the value we seek for ourselves, our clients and society has never been more important. But it also brings massive opportunity.
How we navigate that opportunity requires strong design leadership and curiosity to
embrace those challenges. At Accenture The Dock we’ve evolved our design capabilities to tackle increasingly complex challenges and ever-changing technology. Our vision is based on harnessing our design skills to humanise technology through making it accessible and relevant to users across all spectrums of life.
This includes providing tailored training and growing expertise across behavioural economics, systems thinking, human centred research to product incubation, rapid prototyping, experience design and visual design.
We have also fostered a culture based on of inclusivity, mentorship, and continuous learning. This includes leading regular hackathons to incubate new ideas, partnering with 3rd level design institutions on learning modules and internship opportunities, and mentoring the next generation of designers and innovators through the Big Idea.
Our team regularly shares insights at international or local design conferences and industry events. We also contribute stories to the design community through 100 Archive and host leading events such as Design Declares. We grew our reputation for purpose-led impact through recognition at global awards such as Accenture V360 awards and Red Dot Design awards.
