Design Challenge and Design Ideas
The Creative Europe Culture Sub-programme supports projects that seek to develop the professionalism of artists; encourage exchanges of skills amongst their partners; reach new audiences across Europe and foster collaboration with diverse communities in a broad range of contexts.
This book is a showcase of 49 Irish case studies with the design forming a backdrop to the work created and the artists involved. The challenge for us was to create a wayfinding system throughout the publication which would made it easy for the user to locate each of the different projects which were categorised within five funding strands. It was also an important consideration that the design communicated the journey between the two years and a celebration of the projects undertaken.
How the brief was fulfilled
The idea of reflection and journey became the central themes of this publication which are communicated throughout using a strong pathway graphic to convey the timescale of the journey between 2017 – 2019. Bold colour with a pop of fluoro red spot inside, and a striking reflective metallic screen-printed Mirriboard cover conveys the energy and range of these projects.
Each funding strand was allocated a different colour range throughout, and coloured circle graphics helped further simplify the sections and projects. Clean typography and layout made the publication easier to navigate and legibility was optimised through the choice and size of font.
A shiny and joyful resolution that asks to be picked up and turned over and back under the light. Tactile and visually stimulating."
