Design Challenge and Design Ideas
Typically with Diamond rings, the focus is entirely on the stones, with the band and settings merely a vehicle for the diamonds themselves. We wanted to flip the focus and create a diamond ring where the shape and structure of the ring was as beautiful as the gemstones set within it.
How the brief was fulfilled
We approached this challenge form first, starting with the ring itself. A slim and tall, smooth architectural shape that would stand alone in solid gold. The flat top of the ring is a horizontal marquise shape, with knife edge sides emerging from the points of the marquise. The ridge on each side of the ring band softens and smooths at the base, for maximum comfort for the wearer.
Rather than setting the top, Jenny chose to set a line of diamonds around the middle of the ring, encircling the body in a row of diamond pavé. Setting the body highlighted the unique marquise shape of the ring. Height gave the ring elegance and the knife edge sides created some drama. The result is a striking and refind, very wearable, diamond ring.
Designed and made in Ireland using a combination of traditional goldsmithing techniques, CAD CAM and lost wax casting. The Diamond Marquise Ring is masterfully set with a total of 22 excellent quality natural diamonds. The 1.3mm round brilliant diamonds are of excellent colour, cut and clarity (DEF, VS+). Total carat weight 0.22.
The highly polished finished ring is made with 100% recycled 14 carat gold and hallmarked at the Assay Office in Dublin Castle.

The concept is very considered and elegant. Very cool and gender neutral. Covetable and luxurious. A modern take on traditional handcraft techniques. Sleek, modern twist on traditional diamond ring settings.
