Design Challenge and Design Ideas

Anam Design Studio was responsible for the design and project management of an extensive interior fit out for an overseas client. The new build property is located in south Dublin and boasts spectacular views across Dublin Bay.
Anam’s brief included decoration and bespoke joinery design throughout, kitchen and bathroom renovations, new bespoke master level with dressing room and ensuite with bespoke stone flooring and sanitary fittings, provision of all furniture and accessories.
The house needed to accommodate the son and his two parents who would be visiting Ireland for a few weeks at a time. The client wanted to maintain a warm, unfussy style throughout the house and to serve the primary needs of resting, socialising and working.
The design intent was to marry the client’s requirements with our own style to create a warm, calm and inviting space; a sanctuary from the world.

How the brief was fulfilled

Anam delivered a home that carefully balances the functional and spiritual needs of the client; a place that invokes calmness and peace. The house is minimalist in style but brings warmth through use of natural materials and a considered colour scheme.
We used natural materials throughout. We believe that being surrounded by materials from the natural world nurtures us; that we intrinsically relate to them more readily than manmade materials. We also believe in creating interiors that will stand the test of time. Building to last is in our view the best sustainable design approach.

A key feature of our design is the creation of spaces that seamlessly provide for different functional needs. The design marries the functional requirements and preferences of different members of the family in the bedroom designs and provides neutral communal spaces with a variety of settings for activity and relaxation.
In the open plan area we designed a timber bench and storage unit, and combined this with a modular sofa for a bespoke solution to define spaces whilst maintaining an open feeling, allowing light through the space.
The formal living room which was designed to be a versatile space to accommodate different activities and moods. Sliding doors hide the TV and reveal bookshelves creating a peaceful refuge from the modern world. Where possible we hide tech in joinery elements; sockets are concealed neatly in the AV unit, dining bench, kitchen island and bedside tables.

The design incorporates a huge amount of bespoke fitted and loose furniture, carefully designed by Anam and executed skilfully by our contractors/ project partners. Wherever possible we created bespoke design; all built in furniture, stone vanity, beds and bedside tables, sofa and coffee tables; all in timber or natural stone.
Anam delivered this project end to end; seeing through every aspect of the process from site preparation to install and styling. This included design and delivery of electrical, lighting and plumbing modifications, landscape enhancements, furniture and accessories specification and procurement. We achieved a high standard of finish through working with a carefully selected, highly skilled group of contractors.

Both attention to detail and the quality of the finish are very high. Stunningly sophisticated project.
