How the brief was fulfilled
STABLE created a unique collection of pieces themed around the Crios pattern. starting with traditional belts, scarves and most recently the large fringed blanket. We designed and developed the Crios pattern with handweaver Liz Christy. The objective was to relook at an important piece of Irish vernacular clothing (the Crios belt) and re present it with a fresh eye to create something impactful and new and standout as an example of what we can do on the island of Ireland. This collection of pieces draws on Irish skills in handweaving.
We used 100% natural fibres to weave. We started this project 8 years ago and every year we develop new designs and themes.
Company information
STABLE of Ireland 10 years in business
We wish to present our Irishness through the lens of what we hold from past craft and textile traditions while adding a fresh approach to the design of our collections to suit the way we live today. By doing this, we hope to highlight the vibrant new skills of a growing pool of creative talent working in craft on the island.
Our work aims to gain a deeper understanding of Ireland through what we make. Everything we do has a story; the history of the craft, the textile, the art, the location, the wonderful people who make with us. It is a pure joy to do what we do and our wish is that you feel it too. Everything we make is built to last, working with natural materials. We strive to run our business ethically and sustainably every day.

Wonderful to see Irish heritage clothing and craft being reinterpreted for a modern audience in such a visually striking way.
A very innovative take on a long established vernacular item of clothing reimagined for a new generation and modern age in new and interesting ways.
Spending 8 years honing a project and product is testament to importance of skill and attention to detail when perfecting a craft. The respect and reverence for historical handweaving techniques is really clear.
Beautifully expressed and styled in a series of visual images with great impact.
Inherently what Stable are building is the essence of slow, considered fashion. They are preserving craft, skills and heritage in a way that makes it appealing for all in a modern Ireland.
These pieces honour an Irish heritage textile and keep it relevant.
